01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Close to the greenery of Mizumoto Park, CAFE TO HEN sits in a residential neighbourhood just off the walking and cycling routes. Books cover one wall of the quietly jazz-filled interior, while the terrace looks out on trees that change with the seasons.

The appeal of a freshly grilled half-moon panini

The half-moon panini, served hot and fragrant from the grill, is a favourite. The roast pork and cheese version has a crisp, golden exterior wrapped around tender, thick-cut pork and rich cheese. The ham, prosciutto and cheese panini has a savoury edge, while green curry offers another light-meal option. They make an inviting lunch or brunch stop during a walk.

Coffee with depth, plus a varied drinks list

A carefully prepared blend or single-origin coffee makes an excellent partner for a meal. The iced coffee is full-flavoured without being overly assertive, with a clean finish that can be especially welcome after exercise. Other choices include a sparkling drink with lemon slices and shikuwasa, a peach-vinegar squash, Heartland beer and the craft beer Aooni.

Sweets for a leisurely break

There is plenty for teatime, from baked cheesecake and matcha cake served with mascarpone cream to cream anmitsu, a Japanese-style dessert with cream and sweetened beans. Baked treats include white raspberry muffins and butter waffle sandwiches. With a cycle rack on site, the café is also a popular pause for cyclists. It offers a relaxed place to take a break during the day on Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays.
